1. Policy Statement
Nyumbani Academy is fully committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and protective environment where every child and young person is respected, valued, and protected from harm.
We adopt a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of child abuse, exploitation, neglect, discrimination, and unsafe practices.
This policy aligns with internationally recognized safeguarding frameworks, including:

- African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
2. Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to:

- Parents/guardians participating in programs
- Visitors to academy facilities

It covers all Nyumbani Academy activities, including:

3. Definition of a Child
For this policy, a child is any person under the age of 18, regardless of local definitions of adulthood.

5. Forms of Abuse We Guard Against
Nyumbani Academy recognizes the following as unacceptable:

- Sexual abuse or exploitation
- Neglect
- Bullying (including cyberbullying)
- Grooming
- Child labor or exploitation
- Exposure to harmful content
- Financial exploitation
Any suspicion or disclosure must be reported immediately.
6. Safer Recruitment Practices
Nyumbani Academy implements responsible hiring procedures to reduce safeguarding risks:

No individual with a known risk to children will be engaged.
7. Code of Conduct for Adults Working with Children
All adults interacting with children must:
ALWAYS:
✓ Treat children with dignity and respect
✓ Maintain professional boundaries
✓ Use appropriate language and behavior
✓ Ensure activities are supervised
✓ Obtain consent for photographs or recordings
✓ Report any safeguarding concerns
NEVER:
✖ Engage in inappropriate physical contact
✖ Be alone with a child in a private setting without authorization
✖ Communicate privately with minors through personal social media
✖ Exchange gifts or money without approval
✖ Use sexual, suggestive, or shaming language
✖ Ignore or conceal abuse
Violation may result in immediate dismissal and referral to authorities.
8. Online Safety and Digital Safeguarding
Recognizing the growth of digital learning, Nyumbani Academy commits to:
- Moderated online sessions
- Secure learning platforms
- Restricted communication channels
- Protection of student data
- Prevention of cyberbullying
- Immediate response to inappropriate behavior
Parents may be included in virtual learning oversight where appropriate.
9. Safeguarding During Trips, Camps, and Field Programs
Additional precautions include:

✔ Safe transportation arrangements
✔ Gender-sensitive accommodation where required

Children are never left unattended in unfamiliar environments.

Concerns may include:
